Mode of Hope
Hope reveals the necessity to depend on forces beyond immediate control. When we hope, we recognize our limitations as agents in our capacities to affect the world. We hope.
The power we get from hoping, collectively, might make us affect the world for the better. When we hope, our agency takes on a new form, one that recognizes its limitations but also one that is capable of expanding its possibilities.
To trust is to hope that we will be taken care of. Trust begins with the hope, with hoping that the other cares about my life just as much as I do.
Can we hope for anything without trusting there’s some good out there?
