Resignation and the Refusal to Resign

by Sophie Hamann

Robotic Textile and Wood Installation

This robotic Textile and Wood Installation explores the contradiction at the heart of hope: the simultaneous pull toward resignation and the refusal to resign. Why do we persist in caring, creating, and hoping when we know that nothing lasts? Why do we breathe, knowing we will die?

The answer lies in the negentropic act of resisting decay through sustained effort. Hope lies in the cognitive dissonance of realising that decay is inevitable, but continuing to care, to dream, and to live anyway.

You are invited to inhabit this tension, to stand below the installation, feel the pull towards surrender and to experience what it means to remain within contradiction:, not to give in, and to live within it.
