Facing It

by Marshall Paul

Stop Motion Video (6 Minutes 44 Seconds)

Feeling hope is the beginning of perceiving one’s political agency. Dealing with how to realize this agency is a struggle.

The stop motion video Facing It tells the story of a fluffy white creature in the process of clearing up its inner life and distress on the foothills of the alps. Calming down from the stressful reality of hoping as a force and form of resistance. Through stop motion animation, the artist attempts to shift the focus from human cycles to the apparent timelessness of larger natural cycles that go beyond humans, leaving them with a void role. The profound freedom of not having any important role in these cycles calms the creature down, only to later get back to its human/political spheres of influence.
